The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 41, Post #4

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 41:22-28

We saw Joseph being brought before Pharaoh last week where he told him that God can provide an answer to his desperate dreams. We heard the dream about the fat cows and the thin ones.

This week, we are hearing Pharaoh's second dream and what Joseph has to say about it. He tells Pharaoh about the years of plenty and years of famine contained in the dream. Worse than the times the country will face is the fact that Pharaoh is not actually a god because the God will be doing something godlike to Egypt. This is a foreshadow of what Moshe (Moses) will do some 500 years or so later.

The movie "Joseph" tells us that Joseph was sent back to jail until Pharaoh had more dreadful dreams. Let's see how the story plays out in the coming weeks.

I also saw in my dream seven ears growing on one stalk, full and good. Seven ears, withered, thin, and blighted by the east wind, sprouted after them, and the thin ears swallowed up the seven good ears. And I told it to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me."
Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, "The dreams of Pharaoh are one; God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do. The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years; the dreams are one. The seven lean and ugly cows that came up after them are seven years, and the seven empty ears blighted by the east wind are also seven years off amine. It is as I told Pharaoh; God has shown to Pharaoh what he is about to do.
