It's a whole different planet than northern Argentina and even more so when you are in the north but in non-touristy places away from the big towns. A few years ago I was visiting an area where when I was a kid I went on mission with a church group. I am not a believer but in my high school I went to a catholic school and every year we had a group that went on mission to different parts of the country to help aboriginal groups, or people who live in remote villages and at that time I joined the project for the first time and for several years I was helping and traveling year after year. So I kept in touch with the people of the village and I wanted to visit them!

When I arrived I saw that the town had grown a lot and many of the first resources that we had created for the town to grow and have the tools to generate their own income had progressed a lot. As the north of Argentina has many cactus style plants, it occurred to us that it was a great resource among others, to use that knowledge and that proximity to these plants so that we could do courses and workshops all over the internet in addition to cultivate them and sell them through social networks. When we thought about it, it was a time when networks and connectivity did not work as well as they do now and they did not see it as a possibility. We took a notebook, while together with them we started to put together what to offer, what to show and how we were teaching them to use the internet as it works, we created an email account, instagram account and several social networks and we were preparing them for about 15 or 20 days so that it works and they can feel good and do not abandon it.

The reception was great, "the kids" of that time, now adults, came to welcome me and were waiting for me with a great traditional meal. I settled in the house of one of them and the first day I went from visit to visit from house to house greeting everyone. The next day, when I got up after drinking some mates and chatting a little about how things are going there, we went to a meeting of several growers of cactus and regional plants of various types and went to see the fair. That event surprised me first because I did not know it existed, it was a creation of theirs. We had nothing to do with it and the truth is that it was super organized and they put together a super big community around what we had created at the time. There were all kinds of cactus, the truth is that I won't upload so many because it's kind of boring, but there were even trees in the exhibition.

When we were meeting people and they introduced me to new referents of the whole movement that they created around that and the different resources. The good thing is that the younger ones started to add their knowledge and ideas and are putting together something big. It has great ideas, the town grew a lot in the middle of the desert and the community is very united and that is something they will keep forever. So they grew, they evolved even being so far away, they created new things and they also keep their values and customs as a community!

It was a great trip full of old friends, people I love and admire and it was open as always for us to come back and to continue helping them from Buenos Aires with everything we can, always.

Es todo un planeta distinto al norte Argentino y mucho más cuando estás en el norte pero en lugares no turísticos alejados de los pueblos grandes. Hace unos años estuve visitando una zona en donde cuando era chico misione con un grupo de la iglesia. Yo no soy creyente pero en mi secundaria fui a un colegio catolico y todos los años teniamos un grupo que misionaba en diferentes lugares del país para ayudar grupos aborígenes, o gente que vive en pueblos alejados y en esa época me me sume al proyecto por primera vez y durante varios años estuve ayudando y viajando añoa año. Entonces como mantuve el contacto con la gente del pueblo los quise ir a visitar!

Cuando llegué vi que había crecido bastante el pueblo y muchos de los primeros recursos que habíamos creado para que el pueblo cresta y tenga herramientas para generar sus propios ingresos habían progresado muchísimo. Como el norte Argentino tiene muchas plantas del estilo cactus se nos ocurrió que era un gran recurso entre otros, usar ese conocimiento y esa cercanía con esas plantas para que hagamos cursos talleres todos por internet además de cultivarlos y poder venderlos por redes sociales. Cuando nosotros lo pensamos era una época en donde aún las redes, la conectividad no funcionaban tanto como ahora y no lo veían como una posibilidad. Nosotros llevamos una notebook, mientras en conjuntos con ellos empezamos a armar que ofrecer, que mostrar y cómo fuimos enseñándoles a usar internet como funciona, les creamos una cuenta de email, cuenta de instagram y de varias redes sociales y estuvimos preparandolos durante unos 15 o 20 días para que funcione y ellos puedan sentirse bien y no lo abandonen.

El recibimiento fue buenísimo, "los chicos" de ese momento ahora adultos, me vinieron a recibir y me esperaban con una gran comida tradicional. Me instalé en la casa de uno de ellos y el primer día estuve de visita en visita de casa en casa saludando a todos. Al día siguiente, cuando me levanté después de tomar unos mates y charlar un poco de como van las cosas allá, nos fuimos a una reunión de varios cultivadores de cactus y plantas regionales de varios tipos y fuimos a ver la feria. Ese evento me sorprendió primero porque no sabía que existía eso, fue una creación de ellos. nosotros no tuvimos nada que ver y la verdad estaba super organizado y armaron una comunidad super grande alrededor de lo que habíamos creado en su momento. Había cactus de todos los tipos la verdad no subo tantas porque es medio aburrido pero había hasta árboles en la muestra.

Cuando estuvimos conociendo gente y me presentaron a nuevos referentes de toda la movida que crearon en torno a eso y los diferentes recursos. Lo bueno es que los más jóvenes se pusieron a sumar su conocimiento e ideas y están armando algo grande. Tiene grandes ideas, el pueblo creció un montón en medio del desierto y la comunidad es muy unida y eso es algo que lo conservarán para siempre. Osea que crecieron evolucionaron estando incluso tan lejos, crearon cosas nuevas y además conservan sus valores y costumbres como comunidad!

Fue un gran viaje lleno de viejos amigos, gente que quiero y admiro y quedó abierto como siempre para que podamos volver y para seguir ayudándolos desde Buenos Aires con todo lo que se pueda, siempre.
