The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Exodus 12, Post #10
Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.
Exodus 12:43-48
Last time, we heard that the instructions for Pesach (Passover) will be kept to YHVH by all people of Israel throughout their generations. We continue, this week, with further instructions on how to keep the Pesach.
God speaks to Moshe (Moses) and Aharon (Aaron), saying that no child of a foreigner or hired worker will eat the Pesach, but any Eved Ees Meek'nat Kesef (servant man acquired with money) shall eat it after he is circumcised. Then it talks of any toShav v'saCheer (sojourner or hired one) cannot eat of it. There are three kinds of non-Israelis mentioned here and some can eat and others cannot. Again the word "slave" comes up in the English. Strange that it is the exact same word used for "servant" in every case that I have seen in the Hebrew texts.
He then talks about rules not to take any of the meat outside of the house. You are not to break any of the bones of the lamb. That part, we later found out, relates to the death of Yeshua on the cross, where his legs were not broken as was the custom for crucifixions.
Finally, we see a fourth kind of foreigner mentioned who keeps the laws and statutes of Israel, "He shall be as a native of the land."
Because Yeshua has come, 2025 years ago (or so), many of these original memorial statutes are not kept any longer. It does please me that the religion itself has always been welcoming to people who are not of Israeli blood. The people, in general, are very accommodating because of these God given commands. They even have Arabs and other foreigners in their Knesset, which is their version of parliament. Palestinians have lived and worked in Israel for as long as I have been alive. Many restaurants give deep discounts on meals to both parties if Israelis sit down to eat with Palestinians. They do not hate them as a people or because they are Arabs from Jordan.

And YHVH said to Moses and Aaron, "This is the statute of the Passover: no foreigner shall eat of it, but every slave' that is bought for money may eat of it after you have circumcised him. No foreigner or hired worker may eat of it. It shall be eaten in one house; you shall not take any of the flesh outside the house, and you shall not break any of its bones. All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. If a stranger shall sojourn with you and would keep the Passover to the Lord, let all his males be circumcised. Then he may come near and keep it; he shall be as a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person shall eat of it.
