The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Exodus 14, Post #3
Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.
Exodus 14:10-13
We left off last week with the Mitsraim (Egyptians) arriving at the coast and the Israel with their backs to the sea. Today Far'oh (Pharaoh) draws near.
The passages tells us that the people of Israel "feared greatly" when they saw the Mitsraim soldiers marching after them. They cried out to the Almighty for help. Then they started grumbling about how they would now die in the wilderness. They complained and that all of this is the fault of Moshe (Moses).
They they said "We told you so!" and "It would have been better for us to serve the Mitsraim than to die in the wilderness. Then Moshe spoke.
"Fear not" he said. Then he told them to see the salvation of YHVH that he will do today, and tells them that the Mitsraim they are looking at will never be seen again.
At the time, Moshe did not know how God would save them, but he proclaimed the salvation (Yeshua) that was coming.
Today's reading
English
...when Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to YHVH. They said to Moses, "Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt? Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: 'Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians'? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness." And Moses said to the people, "Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of YHVH, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again.
