The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Exodus 9, Post #5
Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.
Exodus 9:16-21
We saw the Creator lecturing Far'oh (Pharaoh) last week, telling him that the sole purpose of his rise to power was to show the world that there is nobody like YHVH and that the world would proclaim His name after seeing what He does to the ruler. He also stated that he could have killed Far'oh with the plagues, but he didn't do it so that He could break him.
After telling him to let the people go last week, we now hear God continuing to speak through Moshe (Moses). He states that Far'oh has exalted himself and refused to let the people go. Tomorrow you will see hail and anyone outside, man or beast, will die from it. When the people heard these words, they believed it when El Shadai (The Almighty) told them to get their animals to shelter.
Those who believed went to save their goods, animals and families. Those who did not care what the Hebrew God said ignored His words.
We will see what happens next week. I think the threatening part of it has been said. Likely we will get a description of those terrible plague in next weeks reading.

You are still exalting yourself against my people and will not let them go. Behold, about this time tomorrow I will cause very heavy hail to fall, such as never has been in Egypt from the day it was founded until now. Now therefore send, get your livestock and all that you have in the field into safe shelter, for every man and beast that is in the field and is not brought home will die when the hail falls on them." ' " Then whoever feared the word of YHVH among the servants of Pharaoh hurried his slaves and his livestock into the houses, but whoever did not pay attention to the word of YHVH left his slaves and his livestock in the field.
