Exodus 16:14-19
Last week we saw everyone eating meat until fully satisfied. We ended the last post with dew falling on the ground, but the promised bread for breakfast was yet to come. Today, we are reading about the fulfillment of that miraculous bread.
It seems to say that when ha-Mal (the dew) va-Ta'al (went up) , there was a fine layer of delicate frost-like stuff on the ground. Everyone turned, one to another, and said, Man Hoo (what is he) because the did not know Ma-Hoo (what he is). The word "he" would translate to "it" in English, or "lo" in Spanish. In the same way as Spanish, every person and object is referred to as a masculine or feminine - he/him or she/her.
I expected to see the Hebrew in this passage pronounced "manna" as pastors have always taught. If I see manna later on in our study, I will let you know.
Next we see the instruction from Moshe (Moses). He told them that this is Le-chem asher natan (the bread that is given) by YHVH and you shall gather it - one omer per person according to the mouth. That means according to the number of people that will need to eat. The people of Israel did so.
The scripture then states that those who gathered much had no surplus and those who gathered little had no lack.
The last thing we see in this reading is an admonishment from Moshe telling them that none should be left over until morning. Do you think the people will listen to Moshe? They have been quick to turn on him when circumstances seem impossible. We will see what they do next week.

And when the dew had gone up, there was on the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost on the ground. When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, "What is it?" ' For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, "It is the bread that YHVH has given you to eat. This is what YHVH has commanded: 'Gather of it, each one of you, as much as he can eat. You shall each take an omer, according to the number of the persons that each of you has in his tent.' " And the people of Israel did so.
They gathered, some more, some less. But when they measured it with an omer, whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack. Each of them gathered as much as he could eat. And Moses said to them, "Let no one leave any of it over till the morning."
