Exodus 4:6-9
We are in Exodus and we are continuing with Moshe (Moses) talking to the Creator at the top of a mountain in Median. He is questioning the request to rescue the Hebrews from Mitsraim (Egypt). Last week we saw him saying that the Hebrews will not believe him when he says he spoke with their God.
Last week God told him to toss his staff to the ground and it turned into a snake. This week, God tells him to put his hand into his garment and and when he did it, it comes out looking like the cover photo for this post. The English it says his hand was "leprous" but the Hebrew calls it metso-ra-AT, which means it was "afflicted with a skin disease."
God then tells him that if they do now believe the first sign, they will believe the second sign. He then says that they may not believe even these two signs, you shall take some water from ha-y'or (the Nile) and pour it out on the dry ground and it will become blood.
There are many places in scriptures that tell us that every true thing will be established by two or more witnesses. These signs are witnesses to the truth about Moshe and his meeting with YHVH on the mountain. These recent posts are talking about how the Creator took the time to train him on miracles that would testify to the validity of what Moshe will do and that God is with him in doing such things.
Moshe seems to be struggling with the the task God has set for him. He worries about how he will be perceived by God's chosen people at first and next week we will see him trying to wriggle out of it, even after all the powerful miracles he has done at God's direction, by questioning his own ability to speak!

Again, the Lord said to him, "Put your hand inside your cloak."' And he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous like snow. Then God said, "Put your hand back inside your cloak." So he put his hand back inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, it was restored like the rest of his flesh. "If they will not believe you," God said, "or listen to the first sign, they may believe the latter sign. If they will not believe even these two signs or listen to your voice, you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground, and the water that you shall take from the Nile will become blood on the dry ground."
